Swedish Academy Elects New Member
At its regular weekly meeting yesterday, the Swedish Academy voted to appoint Åsa Wikforss as a new member. She will succeed Sara Danius on Chair Number 7.
Åsa Wikforss is a philosopher and writer, born in 1961 and resident in Stockholm. She defended her doctoral thesis in 1996 at Columbia University in New York and is currently a professor of theoretical philosophy at Stockholm University. Her research is concerned with the philosophy of language and mind, and with epistemology. In 2017, Wikforss published Alternativa fakta – om kunskapen och dess fiender (Alternative Facts – on knowledge and its enemies), in which she investigates from a philosophical perspective the phenomenon of ’knowledge resistance’. She is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences since 2018.
Åsa Wikforss will be formally admitted at the Academy’s Annual Grand Ceremony on 20 December.
