The Swedish Academy elects a new member
At its most recent Thursday convocation, the Swedish Academy voted to appoint a new member, the author Tua Forsström. She will succeed Katarina Frostenson on Chair No. 18. H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf has today given approval to the appointment.
Tua Forsström was born in Borgå, Finland, in 1947 and currently lives in Helsinki. One of the Nordic region’s most prominent poets, Forsström has also written for the theatre and has collaborated with Nordic composers. Her first published volume of poetry came in 1972 with En dikt om kärlek och annat (“A poem about love and other things”). Her latest collection, Anteckningar (“Notes”), was published in 2018.
Tua Forsström has received a number of awards, among them the Nordic Council Literature Prize, Samfundet De Nios Stora pris, the Bellman Prize, the Edith Södergran Prize and the Swedish Academy’s Finland Prize.
Tua Forsström will be inducted at the Academy’s ceremonial annual meeting on 20 December.
